Shas To Send First Ethiopian Rabbi To Knesset

Shas won 13 seats in yesterday’s election. The 13th spot on the Shas list is an Ethiopian rabbi from Beersheva, Mazor Bayana. This means Shas will send the first Ethiopian rabbi in the history of Israel to Knesset.

Not only is the Ethiopian Jewish community getting real representation, but the Russian-Jewish Yisrael Beiteinu party got more votes than Likud. Within Likud, it appears thast Bibi’s politcal career is dead, and he may be replace by Silvan Shalom.

All in all, Jewish ethnic minorities are rising up in the polls. They are no longer immigrant strangers, but are now integrated members of the Israeli politica lcommunity.

In the final count Shas lost a mandate so it seems he isn’t going after all.
