Marvin Schick’s Brother Sparks Brooklyn Riot

It turns out Marvin Schick‘s brother sparked the Boro Park riot:

The trouble began when cops arrested Schick, 75, alleging that he was talking on his cell phone while driving and failed to obey instructions. Witnesses said he was roughed up by cops when he got out of the car and, hard of hearing, may not have been able to hear their instructions. The cops said he failed to get out of the way as they were trying to answer a radio call and was later confrontational.

Schick was charged with obstructing governmental administration and was released on a desk appearance ticket.

Schick is the brother of Marvin Schick, a commentator on Jewish affairs and president of the Rabbi Jacob Joseph School on Staten Island. The family’s baked goods business is well known in the kosher world.

Haredim blame police for the the riot and allege police brutality. Even if this is true (and I doubt that it is in the fullest sense) the behavior of the haredim – attacking police, burning property and hooliganism – cannot be condoned or explained away. Marvin Schick’s next column should be a civics lesson for all haredim – his family included.

How did Marvin’s Schick’s brother spark a riot? By talking on a cell phone and getting roughed up by police who told him they were treating him like a N—-ER. (fill in blanks everybody knows the distateful word).

The highest uniformed police officer in the city responded to the street protest (the NY Daily News Editorial, while deploring the behaviour, carefully noted it was more a marsmallow roast than a riot) is credibly quoted as having said said “get the “f—ing Jews out of here).

I do not condone breaking car windows ore setting a police car on fire, but there are two sides to this story and Marvin Schick’s brother did nothing wrong, and, if media reports are correct, the only offense he was charged with was talking on a cell phone (now there is riot sparking behaviour worthy of strong condemnation).

The only person who ever got killed in Boro Park was Gideon Busch, a mentally disturbed orthodox Jew who weighed 140 pounds, and apparently was so menacing to the police with an ordinary smallish hammer that a dozen policemen could not figure out how to subdue him without killing him.

It should be noted here that a Federal District Court judge who was a former policeman was so disturbed by the actions of the and their lying testimony police that he ordered a new trial, an extraordinary remedy after a defendant’s verdict.

  3. don't be wicked

how low can you get shmarya? how can you write “marvin shick’s brother spraks riot”? you are a a hater of many jews. this is the only explanation for all antisemitic remarks you constantly make on orthodox jews.

you want to complain that they should nto reated that way at the police, i would hear your position. but for you to write “so and sows brother sparks riot” when he is half deaf and you do not know all the story is a result of your anti semitic tnedencies towards orthodox jews.

  4. Perhaps you should read my earlier post on the riot:

    http://failedmessiah.typepad.com/failed_messiahcom/2006/04/haredim_riot_in.html

You’ll note that I mention the deafness and related issues there.

  5. don't be wicked

and yet it does not stop you from writing such inflamatory heading as “so and so SPaRKED A RIOT” you should be ashme of yourself and do teshuva before pessach for your antisemitic offensive at anyone orthodox today, you antiorthodox jew

If the Baal Shem Tov himself suddenly manifested himself on the sidewalks of Boro Park, these creatures would find a way to denounce HIM of “antisemitism”, so don’t sweat it. You’re in good company.

Everyone knows the word “antisemitism” is now a code word in certain circles for “I’m guilty, you caught me, but I’m getting away with murder, but leave me alone anyway….”

    Shmarya-

It appears that you are using “guilt by association” against Marvin Schick, a tireless advocate of Jewish education. Just because his brother resisted a cop doesn’t mean that Marvin Schick is also a lawbreaker. Then you wonder why people hold your credibility in low esteem.

Stop the personal attacks and focus on the issues!

  8. No, not at all. But the fact that they are brothers is news, especially because of what resulted from the incident.
