Well… I do not have any problem with Rav Amnon Yitzhak. I actually love him and what he is doing. But all of those who find pleasure in Haredi bashing, including you Shmarya every now and then, why would you want to promote him.
Let me explain myself. The Haredi world needs to hear criticism and there is a lot that should be corrected there. But many of the regulars here do go beyond the constructive criticism.
I did followed some links (I cannot recall which) the other day and I’ve found a site dedicated to Amnon Yitzhak bashing with his picture prominently displayed.
    Guys, stick with constructive criticism.

I love him too but he has some outrageous videos on shofar.net

I’m going to the hell for saying this, but that last shot reminded me eerily of Hassan Nasrallah saying takbeer. Of course, the contexts are dramatically different – they just look so damn alike. :\

C-Girl, the be-atch that stole my link to this video and turned it over to Shmarya, thought it might have been some sort of messianic kiruv meeting – it has all of the elements of a classic Evangelical Christian revival meeting! The original reason I was watching the video, BTW, was the magnificent pronunciation of the Shma’ – an ayin you could choke to death on trying to mimic, a gentle heth, and perhaps even a hint of a final daleth at the end, although I could done with a little more of the aleph in “Yisra-el”. Tasty.

Rav Amnon Yitzhak Shlit”a is cool. I don’t like his style sometimes talking about gehenom and stuff like that scaring folks into submission (to think about it word islam also related to “submission” talk about parallels):-)
On the other hand he is a good man seems to be very genuine even though it’s hard to judge as i never met him in person. When he did speak in my city (here in the heart of Texas 😉 people cried during the speech I’m told. Which sounds like the thing early Chassidim wanted to avoid making magidim audience cry.

A beautiful video. What is this guy’s angle? I’m not familiar with him.

I am definitely in the wrong wing of Judaism. First off, look at the acceptance, the love exhibited by all the people there for their fellow man. You don’t see any coldness, elitism, one-upsmanship. It’s just love, love, love. The way it ought to be. The way it’s NOT by so many in certain ultra-orthodox Ashkenazic circles.
And yes, the girls are eye candy.

  8. Call me cynical but this struck me first as a Shas propaganda video. The main dude looked familiar and other commenters here said it was Rav Amnon Yitzhak and so so be it. I think I rarely saw pictures of him anyway – but I DID hear one of his tapes once I guess some 10 years ago. He spreads his propaganda a lot like Iranian and other Islamic fundamentalist mullahs do – tapes, the internet, big pow-wows like in this video.

This video is all warm fuzzy kiruv, people hugging each other and all, but my assessment of Rav Amnon Yitzhak is that he’s a nutcase – a hateful, xenophobic nutcase. If I remember correctly, he is oe of those who wants to turn the State of Israel into a theocracy which I cannot accept.

Shmarya – be VERY VERY careful of whose videos you put up here. You could be spreading propaganda of someone who might be 100% contrary to your beliefs without knowing it.

  9. Unless, of course, your posting this video is just about checking out some hot Sephardi/Mizrachi/Ethiopian chicks.

Still, the hot chicks are part of the propaganda (women like THIS are religious?!? Ooh, well maybe I should consider becoming religious, too! Same idea works all over the advertising industry) and you could be falling for hype that you might not be into on closer inspection.

  10. I gotta tell you, treif, I put it up for the women. The first time I went to Israel, I got to Jerusalem and was walking up Rehov Yafo from the Old City to Ben Yehuda. I saw these women. So many beautiful, dark women. I was planning on spending the next several years in yeshiva. If I had been alone and not with friends, I think I’d still be with one of those girls now …

  11. Scam Alert

    scotty is grub and desperate.

I have to echo most of Treifalicious’s comments about Amnon Yitzhak. He is also constantly excoriating Zionism (not that there are not no critiques to be made)in the most intemperate language. He is a televangelist, who happens to be a Teimani Haredi, but he uses all the same slick marketing that you claim to hate when it comes from Chabad or the 700 Club. I heard one CD of his where some guy was “witnessing” about how he started to put on tefilin daily and his cancer went into remission. How is this different from the Oral Roberts faith healings? OK, some of the girls are hotties. You can see hotties praising the Lord at the megachurches, even dusky skinned ones.

  13. C-Girl

C-Girl would like to add, in the most respectful, non-threatening way possible, that if it must be said that she is a “be-atch”, it should be said nicely and with a smile on one’s face.

    That is all.

  14. C-Girl

And in all fairness, some of those guys in the video are pretty hot. Backing me up on that one, treifalicious?

  15. I once saw a video of Hhakham Amnon Yitzhhaq arriving at a stadium revival meeting in a helicopter.

The helicopter landed on the field in the middle of the stadium while everyone around was cheering, and Hhakham Amnon Yitzhhaq steps out of the helicopter with a seifer Torah in his arms.

  16. i like the parallelism in this video between the men putting on tzitzit and the women putting on headscarves.

“I gotta tell you, treif, I put it up for the women.”

I’ve tried to make a sardonic comments twice here and both times my browser crashed. Signs from above aside, I watched that whole clip biting my knuckles and slapping my forehead. Propaganda, indeed, and what wonderful, wonderful propaganda.

“Watch for the beautiful Ethiopian girl.”

As if I needed to be told.

  19. C-girl: Yes, the men are hot as well.

I have always believed that the average Israeli is simply smarter and more attractive than the average American. This did not change even after living in Israel for years and getting used to non-Ashkenazim.

From my perspective also, many of those guys looked like guys who flirted with me in the street but would never actually date. These guys often also did not have the most progressive attitudes towards women, which is a big turnoff. Nice enough to look at, but you may not want to get too closely involved with them.

After several years of living in Israel, however, hot Sephardi/Mizrachi men are more commonplace to my eyes that it would not be necessary to post videos of them made by demagogues using the same slick tactics of teh advertising industry and evey major televangelist just to check out attractive men. I just read things like ynetnews.com (Yediot Aharonot – and in ENGLISH!) and get images straigt from Israel every day.

Again, the attractive people are there to suck people like you and Shmarya in. It’s part of the hype. Don’t belivee the hype.

  20. Yochanan Lavie

So, Amnon is one of those anti-zionist, theocratic, hareidim? Too bad. I was hoping he was a kind of Sefardic Shlomo. I like his Hebrew pronunication. And more importantly, he has the babes!

As Marshall McLuhan said, the medium is the message. Moderate traditionalists have done a lousy job of getting their message out.

As for the fundie-Islam, and megachurch parellels, there are many reasons they are suceeding while mainline churches and moderate mosques are dwindling. (Or why Orhtodoxy, for all its dropouts,is faring better than Conservative Judaism, which is in its death throes).

Watch and learn (when you’ve finished ogling the babes or dudes). You have a clear message, that speaks to basic needs, and is presented in an attractive audio-visual format. Liberal religion is wimpy-washy by comparison.

Intellectually I “know better” but that video speaks to my kishkes.

  21. C-Girl

Treif- all kidding aside, it was I who thought this video had “messianic” writen all over it. Turns out I was in the right forest, but I’d picked the wrong nut tree.

I’m confident there’s little danger (no danger, actually) of my getting sucked in. And I suspect we’re not going to find Shmarya in any of those crowd shots anytime soon. I hear he’s already got his own tallis katan, anyway.

  22. Don’t be too sure, C-Girl. I’d be willing to pick up a new Sefardi model in exchange for, well, a new Sefardi model …

  23. Neo-Conservaguy

“C-Girl would like to add, in the most respectful, non-threatening way possible, that if it must be said that she is a “be-atch”, it should be said nicely and with a smile on one’s face.”

    And it was, of course…

  24. C-Girl

    “Don’t be too sure, C-Girl…”
    Yeah, yeah…

    Good Shabbos 🙂

  25. “this video had “messianic” writen all over it.” – C-girl

You know, I didn’t get the messianic part. My mind just started taking it apart immediately. I have seen snippets of videos like this, usually Shas propaganda videos.

An interesting question is why moderate traditionalists often fail to make their message as appealing as wacked out forms of religion. My guess is that teh very moderation makes it seem less exciting to someone looking for defined answers.

The only thing moderate traditionalists can do is perhaps wait until people start to feel opprerssed by the wackjobs. Then they will come looking for moderation and we will be there waiting. It’s just a question of teh pendulum swinging our way or the other way.

I have a feeling that the Conservatove movement started out as a reaction to the excesses of what we call Orthodoxy as experienced by recent immigrants to the US and attempts to be authentically Jewish while acculturating to American life. For those for whom that was not enough there was Modern Orthodoxy.

Like skinny jeans, both will eventually come back in style.

  26. Isa

These folks seem to accept Ethiopians
The big rabbi doesn’t claim to be some sort of Messiah.
This is something I could have gone for in the past- my present circumatances would prevent this of course-married and living in Texas. As for the small ‘warts’ I could just ignore those.
    Much thanks for posting this.

Neo–if you liked this, you would enjoy this clip–some serious Teimawni pronuciation from this classic (and classically funny) Israeli political ad from the 1988 elections.

    OneTop6,
yes, i think that as you say, you should be going to hell.
i don’t know where you came from to this religion, but hey our forefathers were no germanic speakers nor wearers of fox tails hats.
yes, avraham, yitzhaq and yaaqov looked more like nassrallah that those wearing kapotas and shtreimels.
    shem, levush lashon.
those with shtreimels, sport often the names of the germans, they wear the clothes of polish gentry and speak corrupted germanic. what did they keep?
